One of the most experienced and trusted cataract and refractive surgeons in Central Virginia, Dr. Shaw has performed over 3000 implant and laser  procedures. He has been actively involved in laser vision correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism since 1994.  In fact, Dr. Shaw was one of the first doctors in Central Virginia to perform refractive surgery using the excimer laser. He has lectured extensively on the topic of cataract surgery and laser vision correction to Virginia optometrists and patients and is certified and experienced in both LASIK, epi-LASIK, and Custom LASIK/epi-LASIK.   Dr. Shaw is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist, a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology,  a Member of the International Society of Refractive Surgery,  the Virginia Society of Ophthalmology, and is certified by  Wavelight to perform refractive surgery using their lasers. He has held a position as a Clinical Instructor in the Department of Ophthalmology at Georgetown University, received his medical degree from the University of Illinois, and completed his eye surgery training at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago.
