Basic Vision Disorders

Myopic Eye

In a myopic, or "nearsighted" eye, light rays focus in front of the retina, causing images in the distance to be blurry.

Hyperopic Eye

Light entering the hyperopic, or "farsighted" eye focus behind the retina. This usually causes close images to appear blurry.

Astigmatic Eye

In an astigmatic eye, the cornea is shaped like a football; curved more in one meridian than 90 degrees away. Light rays entering the eye come to multiple focal points in front of or behind the retina. This causes images up close and in the distance to appear out of focus.
